Finished Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough. I received a copy for review.
Summary (from Goodreads):
“Lisa lives for her daughter Ava, her job, and her best friend Marilyn, but when a handsome client shows an interest in her, Lisa starts daydreaming about sharing her life with him too. Maybe she’s ready now. Maybe she can trust again. Maybe it’s time to let her terrifying secret past go. Then her daughter rescues a boy from drowning and their pictures are all over the news for everyone to see. Lisa’s world explodes, and she finds everything she has built threatened. Not knowing whom she can trust, it’s up to her to face her past to save what she holds dear.”
I haven’t read Sarah Pinborough’s books before, but I’ve heard a lot of people talking about her last book (Behind Her Eyes), a must-read thriller with a shocking ending. (I do plan to read that one at some point, but when I got a chance to read this one first, I jumped at it.)
I think just going off the synopsis, I had some theories about what was happening in the book, and every guess I had was not just wrong but basically the most wrong it could be. At the same time, though, it never felt like things were thrown together just for shock value. Everything made sense but the pieces just didn’t fit in my head until everything was revealed. (That’s a little embarrassing to admit.)
If you’re in the mood for a fun thriller that will keep you guessing, grab this one. You won’t see it coming.
