Maresi

Finished Maresi by Maria Turtschaninoff. I received a copy for review.

Maresi lives in the Red Abbey, a place exclusively for women and girls. She’s 13 and a novice there. She loves her new home, where she gets to care for the little girls and, best of all, read as much as she wants at night.

Then Jai arrives. It takes a while to learn where she’s from and why she left, but suffice it to say that it’s a harrowing story. And, through no fault of her own, she brings danger with her.

This story read almost like a fairy tale or legend. It felt almost ancient and timeless the way they can, if told properly. I love Maresi and Jai and the others in the Abbey.
