Lucy and Linh (mini-review)

Finished Lucy and Linh by Alice Pung.

Lucy is a new student at a prestigious school where she doesn’t fit in. She’s the daughter of immigrants (Chinese, from Vietnam) and she values her family far more than her new school or classmates. As a result, she sort of fits in but not really.

At its heart, this book is about how to balance who you are in different spheres of your life. We all present different faces in different situations, and that’s not really disingenuous–you can’t be the exact same person at home and at school.

This is such a clever novel and I cannot wait to see what Alice Pung writes in the future. Recommended.
