Burn Baby Burn

Finished Burn Baby Burn by Meg Medina.

It’s the summer of 1977 in New York. Disco and punk are battling for supremacy, there’s a serial killer and a ton of arsons and looting. Nora cares about all that but is more concerned with her brother (who’s using drugs and is connected to at least one crime that we know about) and her mom (her hours keep getting cut and money is tight).

This is an insanely fun and tense book. I wish there had been more Son of Sam stuff but at the same time, it wasn’t really needed (seriously, this book is SO INTENSE). I loved Nora and between her brother and Son of Sam (Nora was the right age and description to potentially be a victim), I was very worried for her safety.

This is also incredibly atmospheric. I wasn’t born until 1980 but 1977 absolutely came alive for me.
