First Night & Ever Afters

Finished First Night and Ever Afters by Lauren Blakely.  I received a copy for review from the author.

Summary (from Goodreads):

“A sexy short story of handcuffs, lace and one hot night in a bar featuring supporting characters from the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling novels TROPHY HUSBAND and PLAYING WITH HER HEART.

Fiery bartender Julia Bell has been hit on by her fair share of customers and has never so much as batted an eye in response. After all, she wants a man who can claim her body AND captivate her mind. Enter Clay Nichols, the entertainment lawyer with a dirty mind and a mouth to match. Their connection is off the charts hot, but can it last beyond the first night?
*****
What happens after the happy ending? Bestselling author Lauren Blakely gives readers a glimpse of the happily ever afters for her popular romantic couples – Kat and Bryan from Caught Up In Us, Chris and McKenna from Trophy Husband, Jill and Davis from Playing With Her Heart, and Jane and Matthew from Far Too Tempting.”

Keep in mind before you get this, it’s something like 50 pages, so this is a short story.  Don’t be expecting a full-blown book because this isn’t one.  But it IS still a Lauren Blakely story and so you will absolutely get your money’s worth and then some.

Oh, you guys.  THIS BOOK.  There’s something in it for everyone: the short story about Julia and Clay is ridiculously sexy and I hope they get an actual book one day.

But for me, the best part of this was the bonus scenes from her earlier books, the titular “ever afters.”  I’ve often said that if I fall in love with characters, I will want more books featuring those people.  So the brief glimpses into their lives = one very happy Kelly.

That’s one of the things I love most about Lauren Blakely’s books, actually: the fact that, while each book is a standalone and doesn’t require any previous knowledge of the other books she’s written, they tend to feature characters from her earlier books (or mentions of them).  I love these little cameo appearances.  So the fact that I get a few moments with McKenna and Jane and Kat and Jill?  Yes, please!
