Finished Stolen Nights by Rebecca Maizel. I received a copy from the publisher.
Summary (from Goodreads):
“Lenah Beaudonte should be dead. But having sacrificed herself to save another, she finds herself awakening with strange powers that are neither vampire nor human—and a new enemy on her trail. In her vampire life, Lenah had thought that being human was all she ever wanted; but the human heart suffers pain, heartbreak and loss.
With her new powers growing and the dark force of the Nex after her soul, Lenah faces a choice: between the mortal love of gorgeous Justin, whose passion fed her human soul, and taking a different path to become the mistress of her own destiny, wherever that may lead…”
This book (and series, for that matter) is seriously addictive! I read the first book when it came out (which has been I think about two years ago) but even though I didn’t remember very much, I was able to follow this book very well. (Even so, if you haven’t read the first book, Infinite Days, I would start there.)
Odette is also one of the creepiest villains ever and (in the best villain tradition) seems nearly unstoppable. Seriously—I dare you to read this and not find her absolutely chilling.
But what’s even more interesting/unsettling is how Lenah-as-human is so likable and kind but when seen in flashbacks (Lenah-as-vampire), she’s the exact opposite. (It’s basically as drastic as the difference between Angel and Angelus in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)
I’m not sure that there will be a third book but I hope there will be. I like Lenah (well, I like HUMAN LENAH) and I do want to spend more time in her world. (Well, her human world.)
Highly recommended.
Okay so HOW do you receive all these books from the publisher? I’ve been meaning to ask you about that! lol I want to recive books from publishers!
Start a book blog and talk about books for at least three months. :) Then sign up for Shelf Awareness, which has ads for books that publishers are giving away. Then sign up for Netgalley and Edelweiss. But before that, at least three months of reviewing books you buy. :)
You know, I love that you’re just such a wealth of information! Thanks Kelly! But does it have to be ONLY a book blog?
Nope. Mine is primarily one, but I also talk about movies, TV, my life (rarely, but it happens) and politics (usually in, but not limited to, election years). But I would wait until you have a bunch of reviews before you start asking for books, because they do look. :)
Oh, and when you review, send link to publisher and author, if you liked that book. :)
good tip about sending the link! Thanks again Kelly. And you’re right, I rarely see you talk about anything personal. Unlike me who’s an open book. lol BTW… I told Julia we were going to have date night last night so we could watch “Requiem”… It’s not on netflix and neither is Crank:-( Needless to say, it didn’t happen. NOW I have to wait to get paid to buy a copy off Amazon I guess. I was SO ready to do that! lol
Crank is a book by Ellen Hopkins. It would make a great movie but no one’s done that yet.
My life is generally too boring to write about. ;)
HAHA! I thought you meant it was a movie. Okay but I know better than that about your life being too boring. Sometimes the little things that we take for granted make interesting stories… besides you’re a good story teller:-) But I like to read about your books and movies and your opinions just as well. Have a GREAT day Kelly!
I meant “receive” lol
