The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is one of the AFI’s 100 best movies (both lists), one of their 100 Years, 100 Thrills, one of their Ten Top 10 (fantasy) and one of their best musicals.

I knew that I’d rewatch this at some point thanks to the AFI project, but I recently saw Wicked and wanted to compare the two.

I haven’t watched this movie since I was a kid, probably, and it’s still very good.  One thing I didn’t understand as a child, though, is the fact that Glinda is awful.  (Seriously! The “wicked” witch is upset because her sister just died and Glinda is totally mocking her for it.  And because she does it with a smile and nice tone of voice, nobody calls her on it.  Nobody even seems to notice!)

But anyway. :)  This is a very good movie, one that’s held up.  And since it was made in 1939, that’s saying quite a lot.
