Welcome to the latest installment of Things I’m Obsessed With!
BEA is over and the excitement has given way to the realization that I now need to read the books I brought home. (And FYI, I brought home about 60 books. ACK!) I’m hoping to stick to the reading schedule I created (based on release dates and one that gives space for new releases, ones I didn’t get for review). There will be some days where there are multiple reviews, probably, and that’s okay. I’m still shooting for at least one post a day.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what I want this blog to be. I was talking to my friend John about how I feel like since my blog doesn’t do analytical reviews, that may be keeping me from breaking away from its current midlist status. I don’t feel like that’s my style though and since I read for entertainment, my standard for whether a book works or not is if it got me out of my head for a few hours, whether I loved the world and felt sad when it ended because that meant I had to leave said world—as opposed to whether the symbolism worked, or whatever.
Jennifer Weiner’s keynote speech also inspired me. I know that I don’t do well with negative reviews. Obviously not every book is going to be The Pull of Gravity and make me want to give copies to everyone I have ever met, EVER, but every book IS going to be someone’s favorite and I hate the thought that I slam a book and keep someone from finding their favorite book.
At the same time, though, if I only say good things about every single book, no one’s going to believe me. So it’s a process. :)
So now Mad Men is over and it’s a little over a month until Breaking Bad returns. What to do? I’ve started watching Bunheads, which I really like—except the main character is SO MUCH like Lorelai Gilmore—and I’m planning to watch Dallas tomorrow. Apparently it’s going to be a huge guilty pleasure and you know how much I love those.
Speaking of, last night, the last ever season of the original group of Teen Mom is airing, so I’m going to watch that. I planned to break up with the show, but there’s only one more season so I feel duty-bound to see it through. I love Catelynn and Tyler and I love Maci (although I hear that she’s actually kind of awful). Farrah has ended up to be a pretty decent mom and hopefully Amber will get the help she needs. (I hear that she asked a judge to send her to jail because she can’t get sober.)
So what are you obsessed with this week?
