Finished I'd Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman. This is a review copy that I received from the publisher at BEA.
In the interest of full disclosure, I know Laura and she is made of awesome. But I loved her books long before I first met her, so I consider myself unbiased when I tell people that if they don't read her books, they need to start now. (And as a tip, get this one, What the Dead Know, and/or In a Strange City.)
Eliza is married with two kids. She's a stay-at-home mom and her life is a good one, if not particularly noteworthy. That changes when she receives a letter from someone she's worked very hard to forget.
When she was a teenager who went by Elizabeth, Eliza was kidnapped and held captive for 39 days by Walter. She's the girl who lived; Walter killed at least two other girls that the police know of. Now he's set to die in the state of Virginia, and he's reaching out to her.
This book is incredibly suspenseful and incredibly creepy. Good luck putting it down. Also, be prepared to think about it for a long time after.
I think everyone should read this book, seriously. It's amazing and is both smart and plot-driven, which almost never happens. Usually the books that you can't read fast enough are more fun than good, but this one is both.
